COLLEGE STATION – After more than a decade of long-distance bluster and bruised feelings, No. 3 Texas football and No. 19 Texas A&M finally renew a deep and bitter rivalry Saturday.
The Week 14 meeting, the first since 2011, marks their initial matchup as SEC foes following the Longhorns’ entry into the conference July 1.
Texas took a comfortable lead in the third quarter after a touchdown run by Arch Manning and a touchdown pass by Quinn Ewers as well as an historic field goal by Bert Auburn before the Texas A&M defense scored the Aggies’ only touchdown of the game to trim the lead to 17-7.
The 119th meeting between Texas and the Aggies comes with high stakes. The winner advances to the SEC championship game against Georgia while the loser gets some time off to consider their postseason fate. Texas (10-1, 6-1 SEC) will likely qualify for the 12-team College Football Playoff regardless of Saturday’s results while Texas A&M (8-3, 5-2) needs a win to keep its CFP hopes alive.
