SALEM, N.H. —
On this Veterans Day, Tuscan Kitchen locations across the area welcomed veterans and their families for a complimentary meal to say thanks.
It has become part of an annual tradition.
Dennis Stasio, who served in the Air Force, has attended these events in past years.
“And truly enjoyed the meal every time,” Stasio said. “I feel really good that the people appreciate us.”
The power of a community building at the table is what it’s all about for Tuscan Brands founder Joe Faro. He said Tuscan Kitchen will serve between 3,500 and 4,000 people this Veterans Day.
“They all come together with a commonality of just serving their country. And that, to me, is just a really, really big deal. It’s a tradition,” Faro said.
Those at the event in Salem were thrilled to sit down with folks they have never met before. They come from all branches and eras of service.
Ian Zappala, who served in the Marines, said he is hopeful for the future for the youngest people in the room.
“Well, I hope that he comes into a time where it’s very prosperous for America and citizens place where he can live the real American dream, the classic American dream,” Zappala said.
The veterans shared each other’s company but also remembered those who never made it home.
“It’s an honor to be out here for all the ones that are gone,” Alan Kachanian, who served in the Army, said.
“That’s always on my mind, especially when I get together with other GIs. I think of the ones that aren’t here with us,” Stasio said.
Since they started this effort in 2010, Tuscan Brands locations have served nearly 25,000 veterans.
